Are you as tired of ‘rona as we are? Spring is almost here and we are still wearing masks and social distancing. We’re trying to avoid people and be around people at the same time. How does that work? Here are a few ideas to get out and have family fun in a safe and inexpensive way.
1. Softball in the park: Social distancing, a ball, one or two bats, and lots of open space.
2. Backyard bowling: No need to go to an indoor bowling alley and wear old, used shoes. This outside game is just as fun at home.
3. Bar-be-que or Picnic: Why is cooking and eating outside so relaxing? The smell of smoke, the ease of cooking, and disposable plates and cutlery = an easy and fun meal outdoors in fresh air.
4. Roller Skating: Skateboarding, 2 wheels or 4 wheel skates. Walk while the kids skate or sit on the porch and watch them release energy.
5. Movie under the stars: A screen and a projector is all you need to watch a movie in the backyard. Many libraries have movie projectors that can be rented out with DVDs for free.
6. Kickball: Like baseball, but better. Like soccer, but more fun.
7. Frisbee: Like catch, but with a disc. Dogs love them.
8. Four-Square: All you need is chalk to draw the square boundaries and a ball.
9. Jump Rope: Single or double dutch.
10. Tag: You’re It!
Now that winter is leaving, let’s get outside and have some fun. We can social distance and enjoy each other’s company safely outdoors. Put your backyard, the local park, or the front sidewalk to use!
