Mo Better Blues Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes

Mo’ Better, Mo’ Denzel Washington Movies Ranked

Posted on August 12, 2020September 13, 2025 by Contributing Writer

Our family simply cannot get enough of Denzel Washington movies. Denzel has played so many roles from an activist, a boxer, a ghost, coaches, fathers, husbands, a gangster, a pilot, attorneys, soldiers, and hired guns. He has also played the role of a cop or detective many times. In all his diverse roles, we root for him regardless of whether the character is good or bad (Alonzo Harris). I still use many quotes from Training Day after nearly 20 years, from “You wanna go to jail or you wanna go home” to “It’s not what you know; It’s what you can prove.” I’ve decided to rank my top 10 Denzel Washington movies.

Top Denzel Washington movies are:

10. Mo’ Better Blues: This movie has Denzel and Wesley Snipes in a Spike Lee directed movie…can’t get mo’ better.

9. A Soldier’s Story: Although Denzel isn’t a primary character, he is among a stellar cast.

8. Crimson Tide: Denzel up against Gene Hackman in a submarine.

7. Antwone Fisher: A black man guides another through therapy.

6. Preacher’s Wife: Denzel and Whitney Houston together in a preachy, corny, heavenly movie with an awesome soundtrack.

5. Fences: The backyard. The dialog. Viola Davis and tears.

4. Training Day: One heck of a first day on the job with Alonzo Harris being surgical with his gun.

3. Man on Fire: Creasy Bear exacting revenge and protection.

2. Glory: Silas Trip looked him in the face the entire time and let’s loose one single tear.

1. Malcolm X: Spike Lee and the spirit of Malcolm X. This is probably the only Denzel movie where he was no longer Denzel acting to me, he was Malcolm X.

Beware, ranking Denzel movies can become a passionate discussion among friends so tread likely. That being said, what does your ranking look like? Culture Blurb thanks Mr. Denzel Washington for his diverse movies and directorial contributions to film which has a great impact to black culture and society.
