A priority is a need, want, concern, or desire that takes precedence before all others. A priority is something that is very important to you above anything else. Goals are similar but more specific and are usually the steps needed to achieve a priority. Goals can be long-range or short-range tasks to complete in order to reach a priority. Some people have priorities for their life and current way of living. They want to live in a better neighborhood. It’s a priority to have a personal vehicle and stop using unreliable public transportation. A priority for some is to be mentally or physically healthy. For others, a priority is not just for themselves, but for someone else. For example, they want their children to receive the best education. More recently, a priority for many has been racial justice and the social and economic equality of certain groups of people.
How do you work to achieve priorities? One way is to put them in writing. Writing down priorities and the goals required to achieve them can make the priority more concrete. Another way is to research how to achieve your priority. If a priority is a certain position or better paying salary, what are the skills and abilities needed to achieve that priority? After research, take action to complete the steps to achieve the priority. If a priority is to have better health, then research better food, exercise, and options for mental well-being. Then implement those changes by eating healthier foods, starting an exercise routine, and identifying mental red flags and triggers.
Priorities and goals require work on your part. You have to dedicate time and effort to achieving your priorities. Think about your priorities and research how to achieve them. Implement change – sometimes in baby steps – and correct and adjust as needed. Sometimes, a change in behavior and thought process is needed in order to achieve priorities. Any priority or goal is attainable with time, effort, and dedication. Keep working priorities until they come to fruition. What are your priorities and goals in life and how do you accomplish them?
